Bassekabaka: the kings of Buganda

Buganda’s royal tradition traces its kingship to Kintu, and the line of kings — the Bassekabaka — forms the spine of the kingdom’s recorded history. Apolo Kaggwa’s Basekabaka be Buganda (1901) remains the foundational written chronicle of that line. In the twentieth century the kingdom endured the crisis of 1966 and the abolition of the monarchy, and was restored in 1993 with the coronation of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II. This archive will grow to document each reign with cited sources.
