Totem
Hippopotamus (nvubu)
Secondary totem
Tortoise (nfudu)

The Nvubu clan takes the hippopotamus as its omuziro, the primary totem. Its akabbiro, the secondary totem, is recorded as Tortoise (Nfudu). Drawn from Roscoe (1911); this page grows as further sources are reviewed.

Roscoe (1911), listing the clans of Buganda with their totems, records the hippopotamus (Nvubu) as the omuziro of this clan, with Tortoise (Nfudu) as its akabbiro. Roscoe marks this among the clans whose sons could not be presented as candidates for the throne: a Kabaka might marry a woman of the clan, but her son was debarred from the succession. Spelling follows Roscoe’s 1911 transcription and awaits native-speaker review.
