Omuziro
Bean (mpindi)
Akabbiro
A wild bean (kindira)

The Mpindi clan takes the bean as its omuziro, the primary totem. Its akabbiro, the secondary totem, is recorded as a wild bean (Kindira). Drawn from Roscoe (1911); this page grows as further sources are reviewed.

Roscoe (1911), listing the clans of Buganda with their totems, records the bean (Mpindi) as the omuziro of this clan, with a wild bean (Kindira) as its akabbiro. Roscoe marks this among the clans whose sons could not be presented as candidates for the throne: a Kabaka might marry a woman of the clan, but her son was debarred from the succession. Spelling follows Roscoe’s 1911 transcription and awaits native-speaker review.
