Ngali (Crested Crane) Clan
- Omuziro
- Crested Crane (ngali)
The Ngali clan takes the crested crane as its omuziro, the primary totem. Roscoe records no secondary totem for it. Drawn from Roscoe (1911); this page grows as further sources are reviewed.
Roscoe (1911), listing the clans of Buganda with their totems, records the crested crane (Ngali) as the omuziro of this clan, and gives no akabbiro for it. Roscoe marks this among the clans whose sons could not be presented as candidates for the throne: a Kabaka might marry a woman of the clan, but her son was debarred from the succession. Spelling follows Roscoe’s 1911 transcription and awaits native-speaker review.
