Omuziro

Akabbiro
Another bird (kunguvu)

The Nyonyi clan takes the bird as its omuziro, the primary totem. Its akabbiro, the secondary totem, is recorded as another bird (Kunguvu). Drawn from Roscoe (1911); this page grows as further sources are reviewed.

Roscoe (1911), listing the clans of Buganda with their totems, records the bird (Nyonyi) as the omuziro of this clan, with another bird (Kunguvu) as its akabbiro. Roscoe marks this among the clans whose sons could not be presented as candidates for the throne: a Kabaka might marry a woman of the clan, but her son was debarred from the succession. Spelling follows Roscoe’s 1911 transcription and awaits native-speaker review.
